What happens at the groomers?
While your dog is at the groomers, a tailored combination of services will be administered to reflect his/her needs at the time. We may:
- Brush and detangle the hair and thin the undercoat to minimize shedding. Brushing your dog ventilates their coat, helping it grow healthy and strong and taking away old and damaged hair.
- When a dog moults or sheds the loose hair can get tangled, which causes matting. If not brushed away regularly, matting gets worse, pulling on the skin and creating painful sore patches. Sores can also get infected. Regular grooming prevents this from occurring.
- The motion of brushing also promotes healthy blood circulation.
- Your groomer ensures that your dog’s skin can breathe and keeps down the level of grease in their coat. Too much grease can block pores, cause irritation and other problems.
- Give a shampoo bath.
- Clean tear stains – those reddish stains below your pet’s eyes.
- Blow dry the hair to a shiny and smooth finish.
- Trim the hair as needed or in a desired style.
- Brush their teeth and clean their ears.
- Trim paw pads and clip nails.
- Express the anal gland to safely release any blocked gland fluid.
- Shave sanitary areas to prevent stains and odour when your dog urinates and defecates.
- Check for any sores, fleas, general lumps, bumps, scratches, and the condition of their eyes, ears, and feet.
